Bias Power Introduces Power Supply
Solution
for Nuventix LED Lighting

Bias Power SynPowertm Module Brings Together SynJet Active Cooling and
Optimal Power Solution for High Brightness LED Luminaires

Austin, TX and Buffalo Grove, IL – Oct. 19, 2009 – Nuventix, Inc., innovator of SynJet® active thermal management solutions, and Bias Power, manufacturer of patented low power AC-DC power supplies, jointlyannouncetheintroductionofSynPowerseriespowersupplies. SynPoweristhe standard power supply solution for SynJet in LED luminaires (light fixtures).  This high efficiency power and cooling product combination speeds time to market of new LED designs by providing the SynJet active cooling solution and power-matched power source in a compact package.

This new power supply solution will maximize LED fixture efficacy through SynJet active cooling technology and Bias Power high efficiency power conversion technology. The combined product offering represents a turnkey power and cooling solution for lighting designers and fixture manufacturers, reducing the time and cost of thermal management design. Nuventix and Bias Power will jointly test and certify the product combination so that lighting fixture designers may easily deploy them.

“Designers and luminaire OEMs turn to Nuventix’s SynJet coolers in order to get the smallest, most versatile luminaire design, with the highest lumen output possible.  But as SynJet market adoption increases, designers need the easiest and quickest way possible to incorporate both the SynJet and the power supply into their designs,” said Mick Wilcox, director of marketing, Nuventix. “By partnering with Bias Power, we are helping designers do just that.”

“SynJet coolers by Nuventix are changing the way designers make HB LED luminaires, but designers also need a fast easy way to incorporate SynJets into the electrical design requirement,” said John Muntean, president and CEO, Bias Power. “Bias Power SynPower modules make it easy for designers to bring high brightness LED luminaires to market quickly, while still benefiting from the thermal management advantages of the SynJet cooler.”

Bias SynPower supplies meet UL /CE/CSA and other agency requirements, and can be wired in at the construction site by the contractor or easily added to the luminaire during its assembly process by the manufacturer. Designers can obtain Bias SynPower modules for prototype and evaluation luminaire builds, and then go to the same source for volume production requirements.

Nuventix SynJet coolers are available now and already providing silent operation, long life, and optimal cooling to allow designs to incorporate the increased brightness necessary for large-scale commercial and consumer product acceptance. Bias SynPower modules are available in sample quantities.

WORLD’S SMALLEST SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY
IS ALSO HIGHLY EFFICIENT

Designed for standby mode and other low-power supply applications, the new Bias Power BPS Series micro-size switching power supply allows designers to easily solve space and efficiency problems.  Available in either ½ watt or 1 watt models, this new supply operates with nominal 75% efficiency.  Up to 56% smaller than predecessor Bias models, it measures just 1” x 7/8” x 1/2”.

Applications for the BPS are widespread, including powering remote and networked sensors, power-line carrier, relay drivers, test equipment, IR receivers, building automation, audio, video, security, AC power adapters and bias supplies.  It is ideal for standby mode applications in appliances and consumer electronics, providing power to system clocks, processors, IR remote receivers, membrane keypads and LED panel lighting.  With a no-load power consumption of less than 30 mW, the BPS series efficiently handles the widest possible load variations.

The Bias Power BPS is based on a patented* circuit design, that so effectively eliminates line EMI that no input filtering is required.  This is achieved by isolating the input path for the duration of the conducted noise. The circuit also maximizes conversion efficiency and effectively regulates output voltages, even over 85 to 265 VAC. Outputs of 8, 14 and 8 & 5 VDC are available.  An attribute of the overall assembly is extremely rugged construction, making the BPS well suited for portable and harsh environment applications.  The BPS is a ready-to-apply solution, so there’s no need to re-invent the wheel with larger home-grown switchers.
